I posted this on your Pirate4x4 thread:

I have my entire rear hub/stub assembly in solidworks.

The later spindles (measured from a 97 Disco) are 32mm inside and 45mm bearing seat. Bearings are 77.8mm OD (rounded).

My solidworks models do not show any scallops or other features preventing another group of M10 holes being drilled into the hub for 10 bolt drive flanges.

To keep the same stub axle wall thickness but allow a 38mm through (call it 40mm clearance) you'd need ~53mm OD.

SKF bearing tables here: Tapered roller bearings, single row
Stock bearings are on page 6. I can't see any other options using the same OD. But boring the hub out to ~80mm gives you options for 50mm and 2" ID bearings.

Does anybody know what the current 35spline ARB locker used in the Truhi9 is like reliability wise and how much it engages?
I understand there is also a comp version.
And are there any upgrades to make the non comp version better?

Also on a side point regarding FRONT axle upgrade

Would there be any benifits of running a disco 2 front axle housing in this application? (93RRC)
And is it just bolt in?

    Found this on another forum

    Start quote
*"The consensus there is that a D2 front axle with Ashcroft CV's and shafts is actually a stronger unit than a built D1/RRC/Defender axle, because with the rubber boots, the CV can be made bigger and stronger than the swivel ball design which limits maximum CV size.

Also, apparently D2's in the UK have four pinion diffs like the P38 from the factory. Do D2's here have four pinions as well?

Other advantages of the D2 design were mentioned as well, such as wider track, longer shaft length, possibility to upgrade to larger R&P's, etc. I guess a lot of Defender competition trucks there swap to D2 axles for these reasons."
    End quote

What would be the max size axle possible would it be 31 or 35spline?

Cheers, What if the radius arms from a D2 are used? If so would new radius arm mounts be needed or bolt in?

Not to mention different hub bolt patterns front/rear if you keep RRC rear and sliding calipers vs fixed with more pistons.

Are you saying the wheel bolt pattern is different?

And are disco 2 brakes worse or better?

I guess what im really wanting to know is, is it possible to convert into a 93RRC? And whats mods would have to be made to make it happen?

Ok forget the d2 housing idea, thought it might have been easy but its not..for the record apparently the ashcroft d2 cvs etc are the goods and stronger than rangies ashcroft 24spline version

So for the front in low pinion we could keep the rangie housing maybe modify a ashcroft locker (with pegged pinion) to accept 30spline(ive heard certain people can do that)and go 30spline Toy longfield and 30spline custom drive flange and axles

Or for hi pinion front fit a truhi9 centre to rangie tubes and go 31/30 with 30spline Toy longfield and 30spline custom drive flange and axles.

    Thoughts?

Good point, I think we have touched on this earlier in this thread. It would be tight as the rear is, and maybe selecting a slimline sump would work but if that doesnt fit we could always go dry sump. Just want to make sure it would work in theory first and represent a significant improvement over a pegged full ashcroft/hi tough 24spline front.
