Is it just my eyes or is the wood bowing in the last photo?

I know the piano hindge will help suport it at the rear once on but might need a bead alond the front as well.

Certainly is bowing....

and you are going to want some nylon coated wire as opposed to the chain..... it will drive you mad while driving rattling around on the chequerplate

I would go to a wreckers and get a couple of pneumatic / hydralic tubes like the ones on bonnets and rear ute fold up windows...... no rattle no hassle and very smooth looking must say i recon it would be better to use smooth alloy or even the other side of the chequer plate - easier to clean down after a cook up

Can't use liquid steel to fill the gaps between the plating and the hinge ? Tad on the dollars for not very much but if you use three hinges one tune would be heaps. Good stuff though, currently holding fuel in one of my tanks quite happliy. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

To increase the shelf strength have you though about trimming the edges with that channel aluminium or two bits of angle aluminium ?

Way to get around chain rattling is insulate, by threading it through an old push bike inner tube cut to length. Doesn't look particularly fashionable but does the job.

Sure.... liquid steel.


Comes in a tube, looks a bit like grey playdough that is kneaded (mixes the two substances together to react) before being placed onto whatever needs repairing. After few minutes should get warm to hot (reaction going off bit like bog/body filler) before becoming hard as steel. Sand it, grind it, wouldn't suggest welding it.. will even dent like steel if you clobber it with a hammer. Great stuff.
