Yes, I agree it's doubling up on terms but the majority if the people don't understand just saying "amps" so what ever works. Maybe I just talk to to many people out of the game.

I don't know the circuitry of my old style ARB (Engel) Fridge or how it switches for 12 or 24v. With my current meter inline it uses about 2.9amp when the compressor is running at 13v but by 12.5v it's down to 2.7amp and stays at that current (when the compressor is running) all the way to 10.5v.

    Happy Days
As the fridge gets colder,it will draw less current.Higher temperature means higher compresser back pressure which means more work,so draws more current.

    Thumbs up

Well I hope Pedro has his issues sorted and to a few who have contributed valuable knowledge to this thread I say thank you in particular Deano and Drivesafe.
And to anyone who uses solar generation when camping I would suggest reading the entire thread if you have any doubts about your solar system or how it actually works.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

    Just a suggestion.

Hi Pedro and I have not read back through the whole thread again but if I remember correctly, you do not have a battery charger ( you have a power supply ) and you are not on mains at this time.

If so, can you get your hands on a high current battery charger and borrow a generator for a coupe of hours.

Try charging your batteries with the high current charger and see what happens.

If your batteries are getting to 12.9 while charging with the solar, you may just be in a Catch-22 situation where you are using as much power from your batteries as your are replacing charge in the batteries. ( would be a bit of a fluke )

If you can get a good high current charge going, you should see the terminal voltage raise fairly quickly, and it should peak at at least 14.4v if the batteries can be fully charged in that time frame.

    Just a suggestion.

    Hi Tim,
the van actually came with a 240v-18amp (old style)charger wired in.
I am hesitant to just switch it on,, as it requires a leap of faith in an unknown install. The previous owner did go to a lot of trouble with the solar install,, slow burn fuses etc.

    switch off at 14.4 huh,,,

the maybe 18 amps from the charger will "add' to the solar charge,, so maybe 30a,,,

Up early today for a scrap run to a couple of tips,(BIL makes a good living at it--)
I thought I'd disconnect the centre batt and after Tims advice put it on a charger for a day or so,,
    12 hours later,
the GEL is hanging around 13.8 and the Morningstar (connected only to the GEL)went to PWM just before dusk, The centre batt on the ( 3.5a) charger is around 13.1 but I will disconnect soon to see if it falls overnight.
The 3rd AGM has been rock steady on 12.33, disconnected all day.
all things being equal the two AGM's will be properly load tested tomorrow.
