Thanks, it has become a source of pride...there is nothing much more satisfying than seeing that stuff finally coming together.

I measure and make templates (cardboard) and do the setout on the sheet metal, CJ does the cutting and any scoring required with an angle grinder, I then do the trimming on a bench grinder and bending using a big vice and a lump hammer, CJ then does the welding.

The vice works well for most of the stuff we do. However the rear bumper required the use of a length of RHS steel and big G-clamps.

I would have to say that we have never thought that a brake press was needed.

The old dictum "measure twice cut (and bend) once" holds true.

At this stage I reckon could build a full size duplicate County out of cardboard. :roll: :wink:

Brilliant work there. I have enjoyed reading this thread from start to finish today, and I look forward to seeing the end result. I am interested in those rims, I think they would look the goods on my 87 Hiline. Can you let me know what sort and size they are?

Well CJ and I go into LR withdrawals when we don't get some time to work on it...happy that we can share some of the journey and that people are interested.

CJ (Cousin_John) is a member here and I am hoping that he will overcome his unusual shyness and start typing here (He has just taught himself to touch type in about two month's worth of not very much spare time). I can't shut him up when we are working :roll: :wink: .

If he remains silent I will have to ask him the name of the wheels. He has to get a fifth.

I've got a home made brake but it wouldn't do work like that, I'm afraid.

You've got to watch it with these belts! Mostly if they break they just seem to stop and drop, but sometimes the end flicks up and over and belts your hand

I would strongly recommend agaist wearing gloves when using a linisher, or bench grinder for that matter, it is too easy to get the glove caught in the belt or wheel. I would much rather a few scrathes from a flapping belt than the loss of fingers or hand!

Yep. I agree. I had it happen to me with a wire brush wheel on a bench grinder - fortunately I wasn't hurt.

I see your point, but I normally hold the job with a suitable pair of multigrips to avoid holding a hot piece of metal with my fingers. This puts the gloves a good distance from the disk/belt etc.

Although.... a small laps in concentration, or a slip might see the glove dragged into the machine
