    p38 just stops

    g'day guy's

    as the heading says

    the wife's p38 4.6 just stops while sitting at the traffic lights or slows down below 30kph 8O 8O

    any idea's of what it could be ????

    its not the fuel pump

    Ignition. Could be the vacuum/mechanical advance mechanism not returning to where it should be.

    do they have the same mongrel ignition module the 3.9 discos have... ?

    if they do then my money is on it..

    Ok they have a GEMS with direct ignition.
    A common problem is a coil drooling and dying, so have a close look at the coils. Any gooey stuff on the outside is bad..
    They have quite a big stepper motor,so it should regulate the idle.
    I would look at the coil pack, wires or plugs.
    The other common problem is the crankshaft position sensor dying.
    Hope you are sitting down when you get the quote.

    PS surely you have error codes coming up all over the place.
    Someone with a Rovercom lite should be able to isolate the problem area.
