1. Provided the seals in the overdrive are good, the problem is it chucks oil out of the breather - I am planning on putting an extension on mine with a small container that will drain back into the overdrive (with a breather on top of it).
2. removing the overdrive may be the best idea in the circumstances - if in good condition it should be saleable, but keep linkage and brackets and drive dog with it. To replace it you need the output gear and the rear cover with bearing (both should be very easy to find, as they are unlikely to be worn in any old Landrover and are the same on all Series Landrovers (except Stage 1), and should be cheap. Also should use a new gasket and lock washer. Removing the overdrive should take no more than a couple of hours even if you haven't done it before. Strictly you need a special spanner for the nut on the mainshaft, but it can be done with a brass drift.
