How long has it been sitting around since it was last started.

I had a second hand Td5 which sat in my shed for about 5 years before I fitted it.

I had hell trying to get it started.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I reckon 2-3 years of not running when I bought it late Feb, I think its been cranked over by me for 3-4 min all up. I did crank it for a minute with the fuel relay removed to get the oil circulating first.
This is what the brake rotors look like as a way of telling how long its sat unused ( 270k on the speedo)

They need to be adjusted correctly, but the trim codes don't matter for this purpose... They are trim codes after all.

    Disco starts...

    SUCCESS !!!!!!!
Oh what a feeling.. Sincere thanks to those who contributed, especially D2Dave who was spot on..

I gave a squirt of Aerostart & it kicked ( but I doubt this helped) & after 3 more 10 sec goes on the starter she started to kick over, Within another 10sec it settled down & starts first go now.
Obviously they can take a bit of purging - I was worried last night because the fuel pressure gauge had a release valve & the expelled diesel soon was bubble free.
