On the bench, a nice sharp knife to cut away the foam you do not need (about 1" from memory), and a hack saw blade to cut the wire rod strengtheners. Now to get them retrimmed one day. Glad to see I am not the only one who has not recovered them Ray.Originally Posted by discowhite

Sorry you asked Ray the question and obviously I am not Ray but have done the same.
As I have lifted my seats too, when I do go to get them recovered I am going to take 1" off the bottom edge as well, as it is difficult to see underneath them and your eyeline is right wher they come to.
Cheers

Let me explain the TIN idea.Originally Posted by tombraider
I did suggest tin laminated with closed cell foam or rubber and then vinyl, which would make it softer than the Land Rover dashboard, what's more, tin would bend if you struck it with your head - timber wouldn't.
Plus the tin stucture would be lighter and not pack as much of a punch as a timber one. The shape I suggested bending it would also not leave any sharp edges.
Also in a catastrophic accident the tin will bend and fold onto itself, the timber would snap and there'd be shards.
Another storage option would be a dash mat with pockets / pouches on the top and velcro straps to hold their contents in. There's no lethality in the mat and the contents can be secured. If you have a sewing machine and some marine / auto carpet (the fibrous type that doesn't show stitch marks and can be cut into any shape) you could make one very cheaply. - But that's not an overhead console, so I'll shut up now.
