That would be it. I am wondering if i should leave it in or wire past it.
I also have a large heavy core cable hanging loose from what looks like the housing of the regulator.
Not too sure where it should go.
It seems to get continuity with the +ve terminal of the battery but when running it shows a voltage difference of 12V which makes me think it is an earth !
fun fun !
Cheers,
Peter

I'd leave it - mine has run OK with it for the last fifteen years, the last eleven with an alternator, with no ill effects. Can't help with the large cable though - I don't have a stray end like that - maybe a query on the REMLR forum might get some help.
Regarding your generator, it is possible it is producing some voltage, but not enough to charge for any number of reasons. With the engine running at a fast idle check the voltage on the field terminal - it should be pretty close to battery voltage if it isn't you either have a shorted field, a faulty regulator of faulty wiring. If you have got this check the voltage on the output terminal of the generator with the wire off it (engine still at fast idle) - if you do not have over 12v, probably around 13-14, the generator is faulty. If you do - either the regulator or wiring is faulty. My guess is that either the field voltage is not getting to the generator (and it is producing some voltage due to remnant magnetism), or the generator is very low output due to an internal fault, possibly a sticking brush or burnt commutator.
