The bottle jack was from a previuos car. The jack that came with it was some sort of 3' long screw contraption with a handle. That's still under the house. Couldn't use if I wanted to, as Tusker as a rockslider/bumper that blocks access to the jack's peg mounts.

I think the LR bottle jacks are quite good ones. ( well the Disco 1 one )

It has the double extending piston which lifts up really high. Most aftermarket ones I've seen only have a single lift. Also you'd be pressed to find a replacment that has the U section on the top to cradle the diff shaft.

It would be good if someone could post instructions on refurbishing a LR bottle jack ( ie what size seals, what oil, how to pull apart etc )

    Waynep, P38arover.

the rebuild for a a 2 stage lift rover jack is done, I just gotta work out how to post the thing in here..

For the seals, its easier to pull the thing apart and clean it up then take it to a hydraulic shop as they dont all have the same seals in em.

For the oil you can use just about anything but powersteering fliud is my goto guy for anything hydraulic. If you have to fill a jack and dont know whats in it, drain and purge it then refill

Just for poops and gigles I have 2 blue bottle jacks at home, both bought from Kmart(not at the same time), both rated the same that look identical, till you get out the verniers and measure the piston... 1.something mm different in diameter, enough to make the seals not work.... Im sure that the rover jacks are all the same but didnt want to put my hand up and say "all red landrover jacks take seal kit xyz."

If there is enough interest Next weekend I will do a normal bottle jack.

Untill I get a .pdf converter atm the word file is 13MB- and I dont know how to post it into the forums or the downloadable section.... till I can get that sorted Im happy to take PM's for it for Emailing or MSNíng

Wahooo, Ive done it I finally managed to shoehorn the files into imageshack and got this internet thingamy to do what I want it to.

The post is now in the tutorials forum.

The image quality is not as good as the word file was and I have no idea how the pdf will turn out...

If people want It I'll do one of those blue kmart/supercrap jacks next weekend. but If you can work out the Rover Red Jack the blue ones are a doddle.

    Im going to go sleep........
