never got a jack with my L/R (second hand) so am just using a standard bottle jack
After getting a couple of nails in my tyre the oil ran out of my D2 jack during replacement and now no longer lifts. Should I get LR to top up the oil or should I replace it altogether? Anyone using an aftermarket Jack....if so which one?
Thanks,

if the oil ran out you must have a broken seal in it......
re-filling it wont do any good as it will just run out again.......
My D2 jack failed also fortunately it was under warranty and it was replaced...
now the D2 has been replaced as well

Rebuilding your own jack is quite easy so long as you keep track of where the little check valve balls go. they normally only have 3 or 4 seals in em that can go wrong. pull it apart, check the piston and cylnder bores for scoring.
IF theyre not scored grab the new seals and replace, reverse the dismanlting procedure and filler up with oil.
takes about 10 mintues to get most jacks apart and could save you a few $$$.

This would be a great topic to be written up with pics. I have what was a good and expensive jack that no longer works. I tried refilling it but to no avail.
The jack that was in my previous RR also spilt its guts and didn't work when I needed it.![]()

This should be linked to the long shock thread
I have to use a lump of hardwood & trolley jack
Coz a standard jack doesn't get 35" tyres with long travel shocks off the ground!

It will if you jack under the axle, rather than the body, depending on how flat the tyre is to start with.Originally Posted by Tusker
