Thread: Diff bolts, will it leak if I take two out?

    Maybe i'm wrong, only studs i have had come out were on a 9" i had in a rangie and they were the same as wheel studs, must check a rover one

    never had a problem with rover studs and i've probably changed near on 30 centres so far

    Agreed though that QT are the best ones. They will never fall off like others and are easy to take off if you need to. BTW make sure you have the two bolts that go into the bottom of the nose of the diff. They are the same thread as the prop bolts (from memory) as you will need the two of them. Oh and put some lock tight in there as mine came lose (not alot just a bit) on the corrigations on tracks across aus

    I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had QT guards years ago and if you hit a decent rock on a slight side angle they push to the side and expose the pan. Its due to the light guage mounting at the top. Send me your email and I will send you picture of our new locally made guards.

    Funny I noticed the top plate was thinner than the rest but it didn't seem that thin it would bend easily, I haven't measured it but it looked about 4-5mm thick?
    If I do get a good whack on the guard I'll check it and make sure it hasn't moved. (I'll have to try really hard and test your theory).
    If it does move I'll try and get a local company to fab. a new top plate.

    LOL sounds like you are going to have one busy xmas.
    Damn, I wish I could weld and make my own stuff.
    I can borrow some welding gear but I think I would have to practice a LOT.

    This gear I can borrow it's the electric type with welding rods with no gas.
    I think it's a MIG welder?, I have heard that they are harder to weld with than other stuff, (CIG - wire stuff?)

    It's tempting to have a bash though.

    does your Rangie have this rubber coupling thing in the rear prop axle??? If so, make sure the rock slider will fit since I had to cut off some cms on it to avoid colliding with the item in question.
    Otherwise the QTs are great, having had them for several years now they proved worth their money.

    Welding is easy dude!!!!

    Stick Welding is the more difficult to master but more affordable to buy.
    MIG (usually gassed, but can be gassless) is the easiest to master.

    Look at your local TAFE, they run courses (20hrs IIRC) and could be worth it for you.

    Good luck, its a great skill to have.
