Easy... And I mean it...

Set aircon to Split, Face/Feet.....

And check your console is fitted properly.

I CHECKED THAT OUT!.....are you sure you'll get cold A/C'ed air coming through to the back vents though?.....I've always thought it was to get warm feet [and thus air to back vents] and cold/cool face....

PS.....what do you mean by "check your console is fitted properly"?

whilst it is nice to have rover nice and cool in the car, please remember a/c's in cars generally assist in dehydrating dogs,
puffing and panting is how they get rid of the heat in their body, that is how they cool down.
Most people think it is a sign they want a drink, then try and drown there dog, if it won't drink.
Back to the car, if you can stand it , let the breeze flow over rover and that should do the trick.
I did a corpse job at Dareton a few years ago where it got to over 45 by 9.30am , my jerry can of drinking water in the back of the rodeo was warm and that was sitting in the shade.The dogs were fine only worked them for 1/2 hr each time.
The purpose of this long diatribe, is don't panic if you can't get the air onto the dog, they will survive. There is no point in trying to modify the disco.

That's exactly what I want to do with "Rover in the Rover"!......I was hoping to get the air flow going into the back seat area.....even with the fan running very noisily on "3" there's very little breeze getting back there, even if the cabin has been chilled down a fair bit......actually too cold for us/me in the front........

I know that the air is dehumidified to an unhealthy dryness for mutts and us, but a little "coolth" doesn't go astray!

And remember the higher the fan speed the less you are de-huming the air - so if you always run it on high speed it will reduce the amount of moisture removed.

And the comment about checking the consul - to make sure the air ducts running in them line up and are sealed so you get the best airflow - well that would be my guess.

Yeah the rear vents work fine! but only on floor "heat" setting, but any temp- coolest available is ambient outside air temp....... this is what they're supposed to do from reading the Owners Handbook instructions for running the A/C and heating/cooling/ventilation systems.....

......my Q is if anyone one knows of a way to get A/C'ed air that normally ALL goes to dash board adjustable vents to partially divert some to these rear of console back seat vents!......

Just had a look at the RAVE CD - it doesn't cover early D1's - but I guess it's similar - and there is a number of flaps inside the matrix - and as you say - preventing cold air from being directed to the foot wells.

There must be a fix for this, however after saying that it could be designed that way to stop condensate from being carried over from the drip tray and dripping onto your feet.

I'll investigate - you may be able to 'disable' a damper temporarily.

Unfortunately, I think you'll find that the early Discos had the same A/C system as the classic RR.
I know the controls are very similar. In the RR, the only A/C exit is the fascia vents (not at feet or demist), unless I'm very much mistaken.

Unless you can connect the console ducting to the fascia vents, you won't get cold air to the rear.

The Disco update in 1994 (1995MY "MA") had a much improved ventilation / A/C system.
