Thanks Stevo, the Wabco SRB101540 fitted to my bus has been superseded by SRB101552, but given your comments about needing special gear I might just leave it to the experts - if it was something a bit less important than brakes I might have had a go, but I like being able to stop when I need to :-)

that is the landrover pt number which the wabco site won't cross reference, the number should be something like this 478 407 020 0,
I am curious as to what the differences are and on a sticker near where you found that number

Stevo, just ducked out using one of those amazing wind up torches (amazing gadgets, this one has a radio as well) to get the numbers - here's everything else that was on the top of the unit-
    WABCO 003 2002 ABS
    478 407 022 0
    then a barcode
    000294

Then, upside down right on the forward edge and looking like it had been stamped in purple ink was the following:
    TYCO 023335 A918 A1
    EV15 01.02 478407531 2

Did a search of the Wabco INFORM site and found the following, which explains the basics and has a schematic of this partucular unit at the back.

    http://www.wabco.info/intl/pdf/815/0...a408799c6eb2f9

Also has some generic stuff on changing brake fluid...

looks the same as the disco one on paper and the shuttle valve is the same as the disco and according to there info you can bleed the brakes in the normal way so I wonder if the 11.4 shuttle valve switch fault in the defender is the same as in my disco, the only difference I can find is the out put for the brake lines go to different wheels.

So looks like you can bleed the modulator with out using test book, when I did mine I used close to a litre of fluid

    Freelander

    hi All,
I'm new on here but my wife has a freelander (2001 SE soft top) with only 32000km's on it and it's started doing similar things with lights etc. It lights up the ABS/HD/TC and airbags dash lights intermittently, but several dealers have said they can find no fault (albury and Melbourne). It aslo loses the transmission display on the dash and the little light to display which gear on the auto. Then to top it off, it refused to start today after running fine, then after 2 hours of organising RACV etc. it decided to start....?
Can anyone help with what's going on or is it best to set fire to it!

Well, the new modulator arrived from Rimmer Bros (an unfortunate name if ever there was one) in the UK - total cost including air freight, GST and import duty (plus bank credit card charges) was $2705 - a bit better than the $8000 quoted by the dealer ! Now, to save up a bit for installation and might as well get a chip upgrade done as well since I'll have to take a day off to drive to Perth from Albany... Only thing worse than cars for spending money are boats - always seems to be a compelling reason to Bring Out Another Thousand (BOAT) !!!

Another one of those undocumented LandRover electrical features I am sure.

Any insight into the cause appreciated, thanks in advance.
