Wiring AC fans to AC switch??

Im thinking about wiring my fans to the AC switch.....Ive only ever had the fans come on once this time last year with 42dec and towing a camper....it got into the red.

I read somwhere they dont come on "On My Model, D1a 12/97" until coolent is at 100dec

Right or wrong I dont like this and rather them come on when ac is on, I will feel better knowing they are on

Do you think it would be an easy job for a DIY type, or better left to someone with more skills?

Or can sombody tell me in plain terms what I need to do please? I would need to do it over the weekend as we are leaving for Beachport Mon 1st thing....

If anything isn't clear pm me with you email address and I can go into it in further details.

It's no problem - like that sort of thing, and the combination of air con and wiring are my bag.
Ok thanks again....looks very easy on paper but Im guessing when I try and find and connect the right wire's, might be a little differant

If I can see any probs I will send a email or pm

...................mind you looking at RAVE it states

"The condenser fans with diesel engines when any of the following occour:

    1. Coolant temp exceeds 100 Deg C

    2. The A/C is operating."

So are you sure that the fans don't come on when the ac is on - they should according to RAVE - there may be a fault somewhere.

.........need to re-think - give me a while

yep Im 1000% sure....fans do not come on when ac is on.

Ive tested power to fans....ac switch on & int fan on setting 2 and key onto on/run and we have 12.6v & 12.1v at the plugs that is conected to fans.....anything else I can test? , I did look at fans a while ago and power was at the fan it self x2.

I have checked, and re-checked the description and wiring diagrams for the 95 - 97 D1 300 TDi

They all state that the fans should run when the AC is on.

So if it/they are not working when the AC is on - then there is a fault.

You would not want to do as I first described/drew as this eliminates the high coolant temp operation of the fans.

So if you have 12.6 and 12.1 volts at the plugs that connect to the fan - they should be running.

Check the earth connections - easy way to do a quick earth test is just run an seperate wire from the earth side on the plug to a clean fresh earth - you have voltage there - so it's either bad earth (hope so) or the fans are rooted (hope not)
