The 13B replaced the 3B, and according to the specs is almost identical, except for increased power and torque (at the expense of longevity).
Ok wats a 3b is this different to the 13b or the same . As the engin im looking at has 13b printed on the sticker on the rocker cover its still in the dyna truck with 5 speed box
Only tojo motor ive seen in a rover was in a blood box converted into a camper it was mated up to the s11a g/box with the engin exhaust pipe over the rocker cover and down other side of engin looked strange but worked well and i think that it was a 3b motor

The 4JB1T (Isuzu 2.8) is a great motor and is happy to cruise on appx 3000 rpm (as they do in a rodeo). They are very compact and respond well to intercooling. However......
The only real problem with the Isuzu 2.8's is the cost of them second hand here in Australia. In the UK they can had for next to nothing largely because the Isuzu's they are fitted in rust out quickly and are next to worthless - hence the reason kits are readily available there. I rang one of the guys who makes the kits recently, he's more than happy to send them here.
Here, you are looking at 3-4k for a second hand motor. The kit is close to 1k delivered and currency converted. The best way is to buy a wrecked Rodeo at auction and sell off the rest, but the wreckers who you will be bidding against know what the engines are worth.........
I had a ride in a 70s range rover that had a Toyota dyna diesel fitted. The owner fitted the motor with the motor's bell housing and bridged the small gap with a piece of custom elongated tube (oval shaped). At the end of each end of the tube was a plate that matched the bolt pattern of the gearbox and bell housing. He had to do something to between the clutch and box that I didn't under stand. He said it was fairly simple. Looked simple. The exhaust exited the driver side of the motor and had to change over to pass side.
Went great.

The 14BT and 15BT would also be good engines for a rover.
On a side note, about 2 weeks ago (the only day I didn't have my camera with me) I saw the opposite conversion here in Sunbury.
It looked like a Defender 130 with... wait for it... a Dyna dual cab truck body.
I had to look twice - it looked like a demented Dyna with a body lift, then I spied the Landy chassis outriggers (no other company would design such a thing) and the Disco rims.
I have but one question...
WTF???
