Now if you are gonna **** a rover with a jap engine at least have some common decency and use an Isuzu donk. I would fit a 4bj1t over a 13b.

Don't listen to the tools talking about jap motors, personally i think the 3B is an excellent engine, much more driveable than a 4BD1 and the 13BT turbo version goes quite well, there was a conversion kit for sale on ebay in neerim, but that was along while ago

G/Day mate, i would think about that model toyo engine, owned a dyna for a few years, and they have a bad habbit of crackingthe top lip off cyl liners, had it happen twice!!, have witnessed It on the next engine up as well. Chits off motors!.

    Cheers Sumo.

Ok wats a 4bj1t never herd of it and yes id rather a isuzu over a tojo but there harder to get 4bd1 would be nice but it needs a turbo as there a bit of a slug but will work hard all day ..

Like i said before im only thinkin about the tojo as i know were thers a recoed job just sitting waiting to be used ...

    cheers

Yep im hearin ya as ive found out why the engin was rebuilt it threw a leg outa bed smashed a piston and put a hole in the liner at 110.000 k
for a deisel that was looked after well thats not good and now im kinda not keen on it as it mite just do it again and like you said sumo the broken liner would cause this type of damage ..

    Cheers

The 3B is indeed a good engine, and can handle turbocharging. I wouldn't say it is more driveable than the 4BD1. It sounds and goes like a 4BD1. A couple of mates in Canada have 3Bs in 101FCs, and one of them also has an OZ-built 110 county (4BD1) - so I got to compare them side by side.

There was someone who fitted a 13BT to an LT95 - apparently you can use the dyna gearbox bellhousing and just make an adaptor plate to the LT95.

Both the 3B and 4BD1 are built for strength and reliability and have conservative power outputs. The 13B/T on the other hand is smaller and lighter but with the same or more power - hence the reliability issues.

The other engine to consider is the 4JB1T (mentioned above) - which is the 2.8L rodeo and jackaroo engine. A good little motor (unlike the 3.1 that replaced it). There are a couple of UK companies which makes adaptor kits to put the 4JB1T into just about any LR model.
