What month is it?
My 2/94 3.9 V8 Disco has an R380 gearbox already.
Does your 3.9 have the serpentine belt or the multiple V belts?
Hi
Wondering if anyone can tell me what modifications i need to do to fit a R380 gearbox to my 1994 Discovery 3.9 V8 which currently has a LT77S fitted. Is it a straightforward fit or do extensive modifications have to be done.
Cheers
Hardy

The 94 D1 updates are all R380. Late 93/early 94 DI 3.9s (pre updates - have orange 3.9 decals) have LT77.
As to the original question - dunno but I assume it can be done if you get the complete box/bell housing/clutch etc.

It should be an easy swap. A mate fitted an R380 into his fathers 86 RR that had the LT77 box easily enough.
He also fitted a Disco transfer case at the same time but that shouldn't make a difference.
Obviously, make sure you use an R380 from a V8.

Is the lt77 belhousing the same as the r380 belhousing ?????? if so can a r380 box bolt up to a lt77 housing or not ?????
Cheers
Chris
Hi
You will need a r380 bellhousing, it is slightly shorter than the LT77. This is because the r38 gear box is slightly longer than the LT77 so the shorter bellhousing puts the propshafts in the same place.
