Grrr its all happening today! - Clunk Passenger side Wheel - Defender

    OK

So I am moving house, so its all happening at the same time...

After and during a tight turn (usually left hand down) it can (some times) make a large CLUNKING noise ... not a CV clicking Noise ... more like a BANG as if its missing / jumping a gear or something (in diff or the like)

Any ideas .. ? I am taking to a mate who is cluey on things like this, but any suggestions to ask him to look at would be good!!!

The Bang is loud enough to make someone on the side of the street look ...

This is in 2wd / CLD unlocked ...

    HELP !

Maybe jack up the front, put it on stands and get the wheel at full lock and see if you can get it to repeat.

And now we've passed my technical expertise, didn't take long.

    Cheers

jack the front right wheel off the ground and put the car in first gear without the centre difflock. With one wheel of the ground and no centre diff lock the wheel will spin and the car wont move, turn the wheel full left and right lock, or have someone sit in the car and do it for you so you can stand near the wheel and listen for noises. If nothing, jack the other front wheel up and repeat, if no noises on full left and right lock then it shouldnt be the CV. Its also possible that the sound fine but when loaded up they make the noise. Try standing on a street corner and have someone drive the car past you around the turn so you can listen from the outside. It might be a diff but the only way to tell that is to take the centre out and check the gears, it doesnt take long but it is a pain in the bum.

I order two of those CV's on ebay for the disco as they are the same as the fender so i will report back on the quality of them. Matt

Hi Cameron, I had a grinding clunk type noise that happened periodicly on a new 2000 Hyundai Elantra.

It turned out to be a loose bolt attaching the suspension arm onto the "chassis" that obviously clunked only when there was stress/flex on the particular bolt.

Ok had a mate look at it last night .. and he recons

"The front control arm (radial arm) bushes on the diff end looked flogged out."

Is this something other people have / had / heard off ? that makes this noise ?
