Well they can be stuck in diff lock even if the light is not on and the gear lever is not over in the postion.
Ok need to remeber how to check
Need to jack one wheel of the ground get in the car and put into first. If the wheel spins not in diff lock. If the car tries to drive of the jack. In diff lock. ( be carfull though .)

Just did this ... and its all

THOUGH .... I did have to put the CDL in and out of lock to do it .. its as if its lying to me when its disengaged

So .. what I am doing now is just keeping an eye on it and checking now and then .. I am currenty moving at the moment, so as soon as I get to the new place I will do a full oil service and look at the state of the oil etc.

If you had to do this. This tells me that it was already in diff lock hence the noises

Yes you are quite right, no diff lock on will spin the gear box, difflock on will connect to the rear diff and lock it solid, with the usual backlash of course.

Indeed ... so my question is .. why .. it was in HI (Non locked) and still did it .. I have been driving 4wds for 10 or so years and never leave the suckers in ...

I am hoping some new CDL oil change (dunno when it was done last) may help.
