I disconnected the cable from the lever, to remove the console, when I wanted to run some electrical wires.

It was difficult to get the clevis pin back in. Would have been easier if I had backed off the adjustment a bit.

I used the blade of a screwdriver to line up the holes (from the opposite side) while inserting the pin.

With a bit of patience this method works well

Ok, saga so far, ajusted the H/B drum and cable below the handle as stated in the workshop manual, all works as it should, but the rachet doesnt hold the hand brake on still

Is there a spring or something in the handle to hold the small rachet tab to the main rachet part contected to the main body of the H/B ?

I cant see a spot for a spring and nothing fell out when pull I pulled it apart I did however prised the release rod to one side in my first attempt in getting the cable back in........ could that be it?

Any ideas please , the wife is giving me the poo's about it, but I refuse to give in and take it to a tech to pay him a huge amount just to hear "Its a Pommie car, what do you expect"

Some of the things that you have been describing don't ring true with my memory - it has been some time since I played with mine.

I'll be surprised if it is not because something is assembled incorrectly.

I have another here somewhere, so I tried to find it to check what may be happening, but couldn't put my hand on it.

Sorry I couldn't help, perhaps I might find it at the weekend.

if you have lifted the handle all the way to the top of its range of movement (after disconnecting the cable) the ratchet thingie will have inverted and no longer be in contact with the teeth that it is supposed to grip into to hold the handle up

found that one out the hard way
trying to remember how to fix it.

from memory i lifted the handle to the top or its range of movement and just push the ratchet mechanism forward with your finger, then holding the button in lower the handle down

you should not have to prise the release rod out of the way to put the clevis pin back in, if the ratchet mech. is up the right way the release rod will be outta the way

    good luck with it

ok thanks blokes for your help.

Ive spend another hour or two playing.

Ive found if I put forward pressure on the rachact cam, then pull the handle upwards the rachet holds the brake on no probs.....but as soon as I press the button it falls down and wont hold in place if I try and pull on again, I need to stick a screw driver in and push the rachet cam forward again...

So it must the linkage in the handle is bent or the spring is sticking in the button end of the handle.....

Any idea how to get the rubber hand grip off the HB handle? Has anybody ever had it off before?

The rubber handle just pulls off. You may have to twist as you pull it.
