    Question Disco Hand Brake cable?

    Hi All,
After doing another job I need a Little help please?

When I dropped the cable out of the Hand brake handle I didnt take any notice of how it went into the handle/lever.

I know from the pics and manuals it just says to wack the end of the cable into the handle, line up holes and put clevis pin in and retaining clip and thats it......but there doesnt seem to be any room next to the release button pin that runs down to the rachet mach to get in there ie very tight fir, if at all.

Do I just jamb the end of the cable past the pin and line up the holes? or is there another way, but I cant see how it could go any other way in.......

I have a few pics of the hand brake cable & handle of what Im trying to say.....

well I forced the cable end past the rod and into the handle, but its impossible to get the clevis pin into the handle (very very tight), plus the relese pin is now bent all out of shape......

Got the ****s so Ive just got a longer clevis pin & retaining ring and fitted the cable to the outside of the handle for now.....But you guest it the hand brake isnt working now ie need to pull it almost right up, no rachet clicks (used to be 3-4 clicks for fully on) and the relese button isnt coming back out.......

So at the moment there is a small tupperware container with mints in it wedgeing the hand brake on.....

Umm maybe I should have bought a Patrol after all........ naa bugger that, then what would I do with all my spare time

It took me ten or twenty minutes to get it right, I tried so many things I cannot exactly remember how I fixed it. I manages to align the cable and the hole and then slipped the pin.
If this does not work, Try to lift the cable, or release the cable so it's not as tight, this will give you more cable to work with.
    cheers and good luck

Ok thanks, so you are saying that the cable head does in fact go's past the relese rod to line up with the holes in the handle?

When I did that I noted that the cable head is about 8mm wide but the gap either side of the rod in the handle is only about 3mm , so I really forced it in there, but just cant get it right, as I had to get ready for work etc , But I might have another go Wednesday.

PS I did pull the cable out as far as I could get it and held it place with vicegrips.....

I spent ages trying to get the pin back in, I could see straight through but no joy, so I went back to using a smaller dia clevis pin.........but the rachet part of the system still isnt working at all, so I still need to jamb something under the handle to get park brake.......any ideas please someone?

I did tension the cable up a bit, looks to be abouit the same hight as before but just without the rachet locking bit......

Ok I know Im talking to myself here , but Ive had a win.

Stupid me didnt know that the rod thats connected to the relese button, is fixed to a small tab which acts like cam of sorts. I though it was only either up or down

So the tab can move around 360dec just like a conrod on a crank.....

All I had to do was move the cam/tab bit until it up upwards and I slipped the clevis pin easy !

but I think I need to ajust up the cable now, becasue I can only get one little click when its pulled up now with the handle, but wont stay there....am I getting close?

Sorry mate, I've just seen this thread. Yes, it's a bit of a bugger to do.

I had to disconnect it to remove the console of the Disco to fix the auto gear change display thingie.
