    Question Rsd

I have just discovered that my 96model 3.9 V8i has a blowen head gasket (I hope thats all). I have been advised that as the motor has 250 k on the clock that I should change the cam shaft and attendant parts. Any advice on how to go about this i.e removal of cam shaft etc and is there any tricks to the whole procedure. by the way it is dual fuel.

    Regards
    RD

If it was me and that is me I am talking about. I would replace the head gasket and leave the rest alone. If it works don't fix it.

If you replace the cam you will need to replace all the extra bits .. I don't know the 3.9 setup. so you would need to replace Lifters and (chian and/or gears) and the with 250k on it a line bore and bearings etc etc etc..

And cams need running in to...First 10min will make or break ya here..

    Its your call..

yep this is a dicey path, if your replacing things JIC then theres a lot of other things that fall into that catagory...

Id pull the lifters, look at the lobes and then make the decision.

I'd do it, well I did actually
Do as BK says and at least pull the lifters out and have a squizz at the cam lobes, mine was stuffed at 260K.

Once you have the heads off, getting the cam out isn't much more, water pump and timing cover and your are there.

Also, whilst you have the heads off do the little welsh plugs in them, they do not knock in, they have to come out and good luck trying that on the drivers side rear whilst it's in the car
