Christ.
I've worked out in the past that 1.4 ton will bend a 14mm pin used to snatch that way. That's mild steel.
Hi tensile can be anywhere from 2.5 times that strength and up. But the problem there is high tensile are more brittle and when they go, they go suddenly and with a bang.
With mild steel you see it's bent and go "crap, shouldn't do that again".
I take it that soft shackles haven't hit your shores yet then?
I have been using 8 ton versions untill recently when they bought out a ten ton addition.
Much safer than any shackle made from metal.
I use a modified drop down plate on the rear of my Disco with a Dixon Bate jaw and last week pulled a dead BMW X5 for 17km through the dunes. With soft shackles you can pull with confidence knowing that nothing made of steel is going to come flying back at you through the back glass.
Google Liros XTR Soft-Shackle.

I pointed these out to a couple of guys in the UK a few months ago.
Now they are making their own from off-cuts of HD Plasma rope.
Perhaps a few you you should get together and buy a small roll of 20mm Dynarope to make a bunch of em' up?
Just a thought... I know that shipping costs to Aus must be quite a bit + you have the Euro exchange rate to take in too.
You need a better picture?
