On recent Madigan Line trip we had six vehicles (Disco II's and Defenders) and apart from one vehicle, they performed very well. Ride was good even though at times they were so hot that you couldn't hold your hand on them. This was in the area known as the 'spinifex moguls' where our max. speed for the day was only 11km/hr and distance covered was less than 50km for the day.

The one vehicle that had trouble (chopped out front lower rubbers and both front shocks leaked) had extra heavy duty springs and a ?? lift. After shocks were inspected on return it was found that the incorrect shocks had been supplied for his spring set-up and Koni have replaced them with the correct shocks at no charge. After replacing the rubbers and even with the loss of oil, they still performed well enough for him to safely drive home from Birdsville without having to fit the spare shocks he was carrying.

I have personally found that Billies perform similar to the Konis but do not last any near as long.

Roger, where were you finding the Bilsteins were not lasting? I've found that the rubber bushes are not durable enough and in the end replaced them with polyurethane bushes which have been the solution. But.. the D2 runs eye to eye shocks so can do this, and not the pin type which perhaps may not like the additional stiffness of the bush.

I have the correct Koni shocks and bushes and they are lasting well.I ask the boss before writing this and she said they are nice and stable even at speed.She drove a mates Pajero and said the complete opposite.Either way there both quality shocks. Pat

I was wondering about the Koni Heavy Tracks as well. I saw them on eBay for $775 a set of 4 (he hasn't got P38A ones at the moment):

they are the ones that piqued my curiosity.

Seeing I have replaced the tyres that were killed by the dodgy shocks on my disco, I just lashed out and bought them.

I'll let you know what I think when they are on.

The seller, Steve Hobbs, seems really conscientious. Rang me to confirm model and year before organising shipping.

He also has a cheap 2" lift spring and shock set available, but there appears to be no sag on my disco and I'd prefer beter quality rebuildable shocks
