    King springs experiences??

Have just won a set of King Springs from ebay to suit a S1 Discovery (my car)... picked them up for just over $180 which I thought was a bargain.

Has anyone had any experience with Kings for Landies?
Ive had positive experiences with Kings 'lowering' springs...

The seller claims that they are 2 inch lift, which lifted his car 3-4 inches?!

My main question IS! because of my LPG conversion my car has had a 50L fuel tank installed behind the RHR wheel.
I have recently installed 265/75R16 tyres, and they now rub against the tank while offroading or going over speed bumps.

As I only intend on lifting the car with springs at this stage, will they lift the car and the fuel tank clear of the tyres?

I have heard terms like chassis lift and body lift, and I dont understand the differences.

LOL - what a nutter, with a 2" lift you will be lucky to get 2" more about 40mm

Soz I cant tell you if a 2" lift will clear your tyres but I'm sure someone will.
A spring lift is just raised/bigger springs.
A body or chassis lift is the same thing. This is where metal blocks are inserted between your vehicle body,(shell) and the actual chassis this lifts your vehicle body up. Look under the disco the chassis is the large metal frame that the bodywork sits on.

any clearer? just say if you want further info

I have kings springs, find them great and I have never heard anyone say anything different.

I've got king springs with a 2" lift, running 265/75's on a D1. There a good spring (i.e. they work) not sure how you can have a bad spring but never mind.

My tires only rubbed when I first put the bigger tires on, I had to adjust the steering stops and modify the front bumper and rear wheel well a bit with the persuasion tool and after that I've never had any problems.

I think he may be pulling your plonker if he says they raised the car 3-4", because then they would be sold as a 3-4" lift.

I didnt hold high hopes for 3-4 inches lift.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

duncanw - my front tyres are also hitting the "trailing arms" I think its called.. of the front suspension... I will need to modify the steering stops too.

Is there a how-to on this, or should I leave it to the mechanic?

    Cheers.

The new springs probably did raise his car 3-4" if it was sagged 1-2" from standard, as most are by 10yrs old.....

I fitted new King springs and Monroe shocks to my Disco SI, a big difference compared to the worn original set up, there are no sway bars fitted to our disco so traveling at highway speed is lot more controlled now, no problems so far.

Its an easy job, the way that I did it was start the engine and wind out the steering nut a bit, drive up and down the driveway with full lock for that side, so if your adjusting the right hand side you will need full lock left (i think) to see if its out far enough, keep on adjusting it until it no longer rubs. Then do the same for the other side. (I got some funny looks from the neighbors when I was weaving left and right up and down the driveway )

Some people find it better to jack the front of the car up and adjust them while someone else turns the wheel from lock to lock, but apparently you need to adjust it further when its on the ground...

The fronts are called radius arms and the rears are trailing arms. Don't forget to get your alignment (camber and toe) checked as well. It affected mine slightly but not enough to worry about getting the 3 degree correction radius arms that some need with the bigger lifts

    Good info here

    Go to http://www.discoweb.org/

Then to Tech section and Tyres & wheels. Good info on larger rubber lifting, guard cutting, steering stops and bumpers.

I'm using Kings springs on my disco. The ones I have are landcruiser fronts, comfort series. New price was $185.
