It is not use to continue with the argument as long as the people who do not understand the issue are not prepared to put their neck where the mouth is.
Read and find out why they choose the tdi 300

So you are an expert on an engine you have never owned one? Have you ever even driven a TD5?

If I had a choice between taking my TD5, or my 2.25d on a trip around the world I would pick the TD5 anyday. It's quieter, more powerful, and has the ability to limp home.

I ask the question can you strip down any diesel engine down and rebuild it in the middle of the desert even the 'ultra reliable' 300tdi?

Infact in my shed there is a tdi engine in bits as you are the expert on all tdi's can you please explain why this engine failed in the Asian leg of a round the world trip as it could not be fixed in either Asia or Australia?

Must admit I get fairly sick of people who have no expereince of the td5 knocking them... Sure some of these people are still scared of coil springs and wind up windows....

Things move on guys.... Electronics in cars are not unreliable. In all honesty you could carry every spare engine sensor fro a td5 with you ( I do ) and I have never needed them yet. the whole lot is only a couple of hundred bucks or so.

A lot of the top level uk competiton trucks are now running td5's instead of tdi's.

I wont ever go back to a tdi (and I have nothing against them - they are a good engine)

    Waiting to get flamed!

I do not claim to be an expert. As I said we are learning all the time. Just hit the road, go to Africa, Brazil the tip of South America with your car and then we will continue this conversation.

I am a selfish Love to learn from the others mistakes

Yes in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
I born in Uruguay and being south of Comodoro Rivadavia (Patagonia), Rio Grande do Sur (Brazil) a part from my country.
Regarding boats and diesel engines, yes as I said I built 4 steel ocean going yachts.
As I said I do not claim to be an expert. only learned something in my 62 years.
If you read my previous posts you will see that I like to do a research and learn by the experience of the others,
I am not bugging the Td5 in particular, I just said that for going to a remote areas you need a KISS vehicle and this applies to cars, boats bikes, etc.
More simple to explain myself it is impossible.
Seems to me that this thread start questioning my personal experiences and doubt about them, so lets finishing it in a good terms.
    Cheers

You'll probably find many of the "TDi's" in Brazil and South America are the locally manufactured (and better) 2.7l version based on the 300Tdi. They're common because they are cheaper to buy.

One of the members on this forum recentrly completed a LONG trip from Brissie through the NT across to Broome and back, including crappy dirt roads, towing a trailer and without incident. But that was in a TDV6 Disco3, and fortunately those have no electronics.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

My opinions are not better or inferior to yours or any other member. Do not get me wrong, the last thing is give the impression that I am arrogant or an expert in everything. I am learning from every body every day and if i can pass my modest knowledge to others I am more than happy.
I only based my inputs in my previous experience but more in the others by reading.
English it is not my language and some times I am worried that I can not express myself correctly.

Yes, believe me, in South American bush Perkins is the king. For that reason they fit 4 cyl & 6 cyl Perkins on the F100 & F250 utes. Only in areas with access to mechanics they fit the John Deere engine on the F250.
They are very resourceful people and anything that can be fixed with a wire fence they give it a go
But then again herein the Oz out back is the same. The problem is when things starting getting a bit to technical or there are luck of info.
    Cheers
