No sadly pipe clamps/hose clamps wont work.

Whilst you are spot on thereabouts with the 35 psi on the low side, when working.

When the system is off - the pressures equalise - on both low and high side, and on a 40 Degree day with the car parked in the sun the equalised static pressure can rise to 120 psi or more.

...........so I am afraid it will have to be proper screwed or crimped joints.

I would be tempted to have flexi hose fitted all the way from the evap right back to the compressor, any air con place would be able to make up the hose with the right fittings on either end.

    Eliminates joints (places to leak)

Just have to make the hole in the grommet a bit bigger.

    Hi Guys,

Just FYI, I got it fixed by totally removing the pipe and replacing it with a combination of Blacknight's and Ladas's solution. So that is a flare fitting on the end that goes to the pre-existing hose coming from the compressor end and a new replacement fitting on the evaporator end. Works a treat although I did have to shape the firewall rubber gromet to suit the new wider hose.

    HOWEVER........

Now the cold air only comes out around the feet of the front passenger side. Perhaps I tightened the blower fan fitting too much on that side and it only allows the cold air to "drop" out??

BTW, check my other thread on my fuel pump to see what has just happened now that the aircon is fixed.......

It would be my guess that you have accidentally dislodge a control rod/wire or two that move the flaps to direct the air.

Pete, I've often read your posts, you must be able to remove your dash blind folded and with one hand by now. Oh the joys of owning a LR.

No I would have thought that you could get to the control flaps/control rods/wires without removing the dash.
