Hi Mario, Yeah, I think your missing the point here bud.....

How come everyone else drives around in their Disco's without this ****e happening!?!
ANYWAY, I can get the left-hand side of the dash out a fair way before it is stopped by the instrument panel side.

Ladas, the control flaps/control rods/wires that I think you are referring to are on the mid-dash blower. What I mean't and referred to in my earlier posts are the twin blowers/fans under the passenger front side dash well.

    Hi Ladas,

I took a look at those two fans that are attached/below the evaporator. I had previously undone the hose clamps that (I assume) hold in a filter cartridge of some sort. I don't have an exploded diagram of these, so I'm not sure. Does anyone have one? '93 Disco.

Anyway, I remember that the "cartridge" slid in and out a bit when undone. As I couldn't remove these two canister blowers without removing the dash, I just retightened the hose clamps again and took out the dash.

This morning I decided to undo the clamps with the aircon running. As I loosened them and pulled a bit on the "cartidge" section, their fans began to spin. I must have pushed them in too far when tighning them and that was what was stopping the fans from spinning and circulating the cold air.

So all is right with the world at the moment. Have a trip today down to Sydney and back and it's going to be 30+ outside, so hopefully a good chance to see if I finally have all this stuff right.

    Cheers, Pete'

    Hey Frontier1
    please please please please etc

tell how you pulled off the dash? I have to fix my AC and cant until I pull the dash off but have put it in the too hard basket. That was fine in the dry but with the temp at 35/6c every day and the humidity around 85 to 95% relative humidity so it's about time I got it fixed.

My problem is it is blowing very little air. but the fans are going flat out os I have a blockage some where but cant get to it with the dash in place.

Have you tried blowing it out with compressed air.

Remove the fan/motor, which should be easy enough, then with a little hand held water sprayer (with a little water in and some form of all purpose kitchen cleaner) the wifes bound to have some.

Liberally spray the cleaning 'mix' into the dash vents, move the dampers around with the air direction knob to make sure the cleaning stuff gets everywhere.

Then with a compressed air line - blow it all out with the air line into the dash vents, most of the muck, should exit via where you removed the fan/motor (might be wise to put some paper down to collect it)

Keep repeating until you are getting no more muck out.

Then give it another spray with some household disinfectant - or get something like a tea tree oil based anti bacterial spray, spray liberally, then blow out with air again.

To be doubly sure - you could also re-do it again, but this time spraying into the air intake (where you removed the fan off) and then blowing through with compressed air.

If you do just hang rags over the dash vents to collect the dirt/moisture.

Also blow the fan/motor out with comressed air (dont use the water/cleaner spray)

Generally this is much easier than pulling the dash off, and normally it works.
