I took our brand new work V8 Landcruiser diesel for a 500km run last Friday . . . it seems like it did 18l/100km!
I suppose it needs to be run in . . .![]()

This is just the thread I've been looking for as am seriously looking at a 98/99 Disco 1 3.9L. I used to have an Explorer 4.0L SOHC V6 & got between 540 to 560k's per 80L tank on the open road. In town, I don't want to even talk about. That seems to be similar to what some are saying but not others. I learnt that sitting on or just under 100kph's lowers your usage quite a bit on a long run.
I've also learnt on a 2.6L 1989 Paj that extractors DO make a difference but haven't had a chance to test the "straight through" exhaust as yet.![]()
I get around 19-21l / 100km in the city (heavy traffic) and about 15-16l / 100km on the highway.

I got 706km out of 92L on the trip at x-mas ( took 20L in a Jerry so I could go as far as I was game....lol). that equated to 13.03L per 100k.
And just for the sceptics, that was using FFI fuel pills.![]()
A mate with a couple of P38's (and a handful of classics too) says his fuel computer drops to around 13l/100km on the flat at 100km/h.
But I bet it drops off the scale when you put the boot in.
I found a 4L V6 hilux can be easily kept reading 2km/l (50l/100km) on a hill.![]()
As has been said before, if ya buying a V8 dont expect great economy!! I have an 89 Rangie wirth the 3.5 which is getting about 440km from a tank, which to me is average. When we want economy we take the Td5 Disco which will deliver 700 - 800km per tank.
