    Bottle jack for Defender?

    G'day All,

After seeing WhiteD3's post about his bottle jack for his D3:

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-zone/52937-new-d3-bottle-jack.html

I remembered that I only have the "normal" defender scissor jack (excluding the hi-lift). Last time I got a flat when I was out and about I borrowed a friends bottle jack to change the tyre - easy as.

I've been meaning to get around to getting a bottle jack and some people have raised a valid point about making sure it's small enough to fit under the vehicle when the tyre is flat - so does anyone know what that height is?

I don't have my vehicle with me today so it's not like I can go out and check

Have two defenders 1 :96, one: 03 both came with a bottle jack, so do disco 1's. Should be able to pick up cheap from a wrecker.

    Grizzly,

I have a bottle jack for my Defender that fits under no worries. Problem is that does not have enough lift length (or throw) to fully lift a 255'85R16 flat up enough to refit the spare. I carry a 30mm block of wood to drive the flat onto first before jacking.

So in addition to looking for a low-profile jack to fit under, it will need a minimum of 220mm (0.85*255) lift.

I've also had problems in the past lying bottle jacks on their side and oil seeping out. Keep mine upright

Are these defender bottle jacks 2 stage like the one for the D3? I bought a bottle jack for the county and the only one i could find that would fit whent he tire is flat would only just (ground has to be hard) lift it high enough to get the spare wheel on, it is single stage.
A two stage would be nice but haven't been able to find one so far.

    Guys,

Have a look at gasweld.com.au and search for "bottle jack". They've got a good range and show the spec (ie heights) for each.

You know, I find this whole topic of jacks laughable. I mean, surely if you're going to market a 4WD you'd sell it with a jack that is (A) small enough to fit under it when a tyre's flat, ( has the jacking height to lift said vehicle enough to change the bloody tyre and (C) would do so safely (ie not a scissor jack).

This is the bottle jack that WhiteD3 got:

    https://ishop.gasweld.com.au/ishop/stock/item/535050

.. I just want to know what would be a sufficient "minimum height" to fit under the Defender when she's got a flat tyre.

At the moment I run 7.50R16's and 235/85R16's. As much as I want 255/85R16's I can't justify them to myself

wovenrovings - this bottle jack is a 2 stage job but once again I don't know if it would fit underneath the Defender with a flat tyre....

yes it is a two stage, I beleive the one in the 130 is out of a RR. Althought I know the one in the 110 is original (had car from new).

Photo is of the one out of the 130.

I'll measure my jack at lunch and let you know the height. It just fits under the axle with a thin board with a flat 7.50R16.

I think I will have to find myself a landrover jack. Just to clarify, that range rover jack has 2 hydraulic stage and a thread in the top?
