In situ. You don't even need compressed air to hold the valves closed with a flat head and pistons at TDC.

I'm not too sure how a product that is introduced into the fuel system can remove carbon build up from a turbocharger housing. Does something in the solution survive combustion and dissolve carbon in the t/charger ?

Either way I'm sick of "appraisals" and testimonials, so I'm going to see for myself.
So, how did you go? Did you give it a go?

I've been seriously thinking about guides n seals but not got to that point yet.

The local Landy expert (Tim Vinson from Landrovers Only) says that a lot of the TDi 300 he services run the Penrite HPR Diesel and feels that it may slow the consumption.

Providing it doesn't get any worse I'm not fussed but might do the head up eventually. I need to pull my finger out n fit Isuzurovers Provent, that might help too.

I'm not sure which way to jump yet. As you can probably understand with an engine with 57,500k on it using oil, and a Gearbox (R380) with more crunch than your average breakfast cerial I'm not to enarmoured with LandRover at the moment.
Change to Penrite HPR and give it a good flogging,check-replace the fluid in the clutch and bleed it,also check that the master cylinder is adjusted correctly and change the R380's oil to Redline MTL and give the whole show about 6 weeks to work itself in. Pat

i found the $100 value pack was excellent value and it did make a significant difference to the vehicle...

in my experience if you don't work the 300tdi with a heavy load every couple of months then you will see a benfit from CEM.

and i dont mean revving the crap out of it, i mean pulling a heavy load eg a loaded trailer or a heap of people in a wagon up a long hard hill.

58000 is a very low amount of kms for a 300tdi. It would have to have been sitting for extednded periods of time and probably has very light work.

I bought my Defender from a friend who had been told that he was fixing and replacing things that he wouldn't be fixing if he used it more regularly. it had done 114000km in 8 years but had been parked up for long periods and did the kays in big chunks.

Is there a point where "low kms" becomes a negative rather than a positive?

Sorry that you are cross with your car but it sounds to me like if you start using it and get the admittedly annoying and sometimes expensive work done it will blossum.

    Who Me?

    edwardbahaw,

In October 2009 I took the TDi 300 for an extended drive up through the gulf. I'd loaded it to the gunnels with stuff and the oil consumption has dropped to about 200ml between changes. The vehicle will be up for sale shortly but its now got 78,000 k on it and is only 14 years old.

I've got a wee problem at the moment with the waste gate stuck open but apart from that its still going well.

I've just brought a 2008 Nissan Navara and whilst the Defender has some brilliant off road capabilities I no longer need the extreme capability. If it had been a station wagon i might have even kept it.

    The Navara scores the following;

    Body and interior, 8/10
    Engine n transmission 7/10
    Suspension 3/10
    Load Carrying capacity 4/10

On a 400k lap of hidden valley the other day i discovered just how brilliant the suspension in the Defender is. With a $1000 worth of Bilstiens and the Tough Dog coils it handles the rough stuff like a motor cross bike.

    Cheers, A
