    H All,

Thanks for the replies. Seems the head gasket is best left alone while it's not giving any problems.

So, to my questions about removing the injectors and cleaning up the head before putting new ones in? Sounds like quite a few on here have fitted new ones - how did you go about it, please?

Ian, I'll be spraying carby cleaner down past the injectors before removal and blow out with compressed air.
I'd be concerned with trying to clean after removal, although you can always wind the engine over on the starter before the injectors are to be installed to remove any crap from the cylinders.

Hi Ian, did my injectors a couple of months ago. Got 3 out easily with a bit of a twist with a spanner and levering up with a screwdriver (as I don't have an injector lifter).

The fourth wasn't that easy but I resorted to exactly what you are contemplating, a slide hammer. I attached the slide hammer to the injector with a bolt in the return line hole and it all came out fine.

My conclusion was that you had to twist the injectors slightly before they would budge.

As to cleanup, I cleaned around the injectors before I started and then used a cloth and screwdriver to clean out the holes a bit.

    Hope this helps.

I now have 275,000kms up and haven't touched the headgasket. I don't intend to whilst it all seems OK.

BTW I was one of your earliest thermo gauges.

    Cheers

    Jim
