Seriously the hose does get brittle and I ended up snapping mine when I had a little difficulty removing the air filter cover. At 160,000 k's service it probably deserved to be changed anyway.

If you do your homework and use a discount LR supplier the tube is very cheap. Just don't be horrified when you go and pick it up. The amount of flexability in the new hose is beyond belief. Concertina fold is not the word.

Landy Andy that Black Cow seems to still be giving you grief. Mine touch wood still runs like a train. Getting some new shocks in the next couple of weeks ready for a trip on the CSR in July 09. Other than that no problems. However will be looking at "all" the hoses now.
    Cheers

The prevoius post prompted me to check out the hose. I replaced it immediately - almost worn through at 2 spots.

As suggested in an earlier post - probably a good idea to replace regardless.

And don't forget about that small hose that goes to the engine oil cooler that lives behind the turbo, one end is 3/4 and the other is 5/8 from memory so not something that is easy to replace.

    Rave:
Excess coolant created by heat expansion is returned to the expansion tank from the radiator bleed pipe at the top of
    the radiator.
