What rubber bungs? They must be something added for the Thor engine.
I am really struggling with inserting the rubber bungs in the rear of the sump on my '03 disco v8. Firstly they are a useless addition anyway as they don't line up with the bolts holding the drive plate so what are they for!! Most important though is many attempts (with the sump off) have resulted in absolutely no chance off putting the bungs in the bung hole!! Any ideas

Its a pain but there are quite a few differences between the 2003 model and the D2 workshop manual and the Rave Cd... I guess this is another one!!
i am concerned that leaving them out may result in pressures inside the bell housing....no idea what the downside of that is.
Loyd
Hang on, are they in the bellhousing or the engine sump?

Can you post some pics of what you are referring to? I can't see anything like that in the parts catalogue.

Posting pics is just another part of the problem. i will take a pic tomorrow and then try and work out how to post them.
The sump is cast alloy with what would be the inspection plate for the bell housing (on other vehicles) cast as one piece. The two bungs are located where you would expect them to be for following the book for loosening the bolts for the drive plate/torque converter. except that they don't actually work as you have to take the sump off to access those bolts.
Thanks for trying to understand my problem!!

Thanks Loyd. I haven't worked on the Thor engine. Unfortunately, MicroCat doesn't show anything like that so I'm having trouble visualising it.

sorry about the delay...got a little busy. ULR cannot find the part either. I have been trying to replace the old rubber but I've been told its probably swelled up. I'm believing the stories about older motors suffering oil leaks when panels such as these are left open. I suspect its true as I've re-done all possible leaks a few times. The air pressure building up perhaps?

Thank God. I am not going mad!
They aren't bungs into the sump. You could probably leave them out - the the car wouldn't lose any oil. They are merely dust plugs to stop rubbish getting into the bellhousing
That's the later alloy sump which isn't shown in the parts catalogue, e.g. MicroCat.
Let me check my paper parts catalogue.......
Not shown but quite possibly: Grommet ERR7229

Thanks again..... I'll see what they've got in stock. The oil leak is only apparent after driving for a few k's and can't be reproduced by stationary running so i was hoping this idea of air rushing in might explain it. The rear main bearing seal was replaced but perhaps not properly.
Cheers
