Cheers, i have 3.15m of wire so i am guessing from previous posts mine being a UHF i will not need to worry about cutting it back to 3m? and would you expect that to be a sufficient length or wire?

    Cheers James.

Well i ran the wire in the grill along the front up the drivers side and then in through the fire wall and have it all ready just need to

Secure the Aerial to the bull bar and connect the wires up so all is pretty easy

Only problem is a bracket for the unit i will be securing it to the put side of plastic pannel under the steering wheel, there is already an electic brake unit there so i will place the UNIDEN on the belly of that and as high and to the left as possible so it clears my leg

With any luck i should have it set up for the trip tomorrow *fingers crossed* just hope all still works it has been years since its been used!

Well i got the Radio all hooked up and had it running the other night all i can pick up is static i parked on a bridge above the Pacific highway at Midnight tunned into Channel 29...

So how do i sway my aerial? (sorry i think thats the term) There is a screw on the top of my aerial so i am guessing i loosen that and move the aerial up and down?

Any other tips would be great

UHF dont need to be "swrd" in did you solder the antenna socket back, if you did make sure no wires from center of the cable touch the outside of the connector as this will short the antenna and you cant transmitt also try ch 1 to 8 as they are the busiest also check that you dont have cellcall or tone call acivated as you want to hear everybody at this stage

If you can hear static does the radio have a squelsh dial or button? Most newer UHF radios dont have sqelsh adjustment its auto.
Do you know anybody closeby with a radio that works or a handheld to test yours with

Unfortunately i don't know anyone locally who has one but i am close to the Pacific highway hence i used 29 last night on the bridge should i repeat this with 1-8?

It has a Squelsh nob which i was turning so it was just clear of constant static...is this the way to do it?

Also to solder the cable back do you mean to the unit itself?

If so do i simply cut it back to a clean cut and then solder it in to the unit?

    Cheers James.
