    They'll be fine.

    In later LR service manuals (eg. Defender MY 96/97/98) they state 10Nm ( 7lb/ft) final pre-load after the initial 50Nm and the 90* back off.

    As LMR said it was also issued as a TSB (51/01/96/EN) for all Disco's RRC's and Defenders (and it's in RAVE as one too)
    This is the standard setup procedure for pre-TD5 Defenders.

    260,000km on that pre-load and my wheel bearings still go round and round.
