Leaking windscreen / wet roof lining - Troubleshoot?

    Hi Everyone,

Anyone had trouble with the leading edge (front end) of their roof lining getting wet due to a leak? I've been putting up with mine for 18months now. D2 by the way.

I had the windscreen replaced three weeks ago but that didn't fix the problem. This weekend I have taken the whole roof lining out of the car thinking that perhaps the roof rails are leaking. Nil signs of water ingress.

I've taken the roof rails off and siliconed them up and refitted. Other possible problem areas are alpine windows (look ok) and the windscreen. The water appears to be dripping from the windscreen inner frame in front of the front passenger, drips onto the dash (with the lining off).

So any ideas? I've been told that the earlier D2s had problems with the A Pillar cracking welds where it meets the roof. Anyone else heard this?

    Thanks,

    Peter

    winscreens

    Hi Mate,
I had two new windscreens in my disco and both time they stuffed up and it was leaking. you could not see the gap, first time round they re installed the windscreen and the second time the patched it with silicone from the inside and it fixed the issue. It could be that the windscreen does not fit your frame and the gap is to big, thus you will may have to re do the inside with silicone. What you can try is to use a spray jet with someone in the car to try and determine where it is coming from.
    Good luck!

Hi, it happened to a mate's D2 and was fixed under warranty so it was a while ago, i think it was the windscreen and the water would blow back in the cabin roof area. Unfortunately he is away so I cant ask him. He complained it smelt like rooting rope in his car.
It was a lining off job but he has never had an issue since.

    Hope this helps

I'm annoyed that I volunteered too much info when getting the screen replaced i.e. I'm getting it done due to leak. Considering the lining is still out, may be worth driving up there and getting them to look at it again.

    Don't even get me started!
It seems a common occurance, mine been back 3 times, headlining out, excuses made etc etc. Seems all good now, with huge amounts of polyurethane.
Advice seems to be also make sure they replace the sealing strip along the top rather than re-use the old one. Despite rumours that after market screens are slightly a different shape, a 10mm thick bead of sealant should mean there's no worries with that I would have thought?

i thought mine(windscreen) was leaking, turned out it was the roof rack rubber seal into the roof leaking, the water then ran down the lip of the roof trim down the front screen. cheap fix for me.

non genuine windscreen fitted. They are a different shape and only fit/seal with bucket loads of sikaflex!!!
    ITS WRONG
Try and get an insurance co to fit a genuine screen!!!

Well crap. Didn't know there were genuine and non genuine windscreens. I was originally going to get a LR Dealer to do it but they said they just get a windscreen guy to come in and do it anyway. The place I went to is next to my LR mechanic (non dealer) and does all his LR requirements.

Roof rail sealing and another lot of silicon along the inner screen edge hasn't worked so my need a bit of coin dedicated to Perfect Panels to investigate on day.

    Thanks everyone.
