Well, there's fuel at pressure in the rail (found the relief valve on the offside rail) ... so starting to thing it's electronic stuff way beyond me

Greetings All,
I'm seeking some diagnostic help from you learned gentle-persons ... with a 95 V8i D1 that is failing to proceed, in fact failing to start.
Symptoms on its last drive were "lack of power and roughness", perhaps more in the lower gears. I wasn't the driver then, but next day when I tried it it just turned over with no hint of firing. I've replaced the ignition coil and have a good spark at the plugs and I've replaced the fuel filter, based on the "lack of power and roughness". The fuel pump runs for about 3 seconds when the ignition is turned on which makes me think it's pressurising the system. There's fuel in the tank based on the gauge and distance travelled.
Next step, I think, is to crack the fuel line at the rail to see if fuel’s getting to there. I’ve had a search but was hoping for someone to say “been there done that, here’s your problem”
Thanks in advance
Grant

.... I'm in Bassendean .... I would have if you were just around the corner
.... Right now and tomorrow, i'm stuck at work trying to finish off some jobs ... Hate working weekends with a passion .... Maybe someone else is close by
You could try another rotor button .... if you had 1 spare
Also spray some circuit board cleaner up intake manifold and see if it'll fire up
Mike
Spraying the "Octane in a can" down the manifold ... If it starts .. Then refuses on petrol ... will indicate fuel dramas .... If it won't fire ... then one would think about spark
Don't spray huge amounts ... just 1 second's worth (at a time) near the throttle body...
Then while your in the "darkened room" .... In Complete darkness ... Get someone to start the car and see if any of the leads are arking out ... be surprised what you can see

after cranking over without starting.......
did you pull any of the plugs out to see if its flooded........?
if the plugs are wet......it wont fire.......
G'day,
Mike: sprayed some "Start ya Bastard" down the manifold ... but no go. Didn't check last night to see if any of the leads are arcing out (sobbing too much).
DefenderZook: Plugs are wet/damp after lots of cranking without firing.
Replaced main relay ... but no go.
Traced electrickery from coil to dissy to spark plug, 'tis sparking ... but no go.
Went to darkened room and sobbed ...still no go
However: just ran some tests under the heading "Amplifier Switching" which included "Connect voltmeter between battery positive and HT coil negative. Voltmeter should read 0 with ignition off and with ignition on."
However mine reads 13.8V with ignition off and 0.2V with ignition on. Perhaps I have found a problem, methinks, but can someone enlighten me on what the problem is, please? New amplifier required? Check earthing?
It's a later model '95 with the amplifier on a bracket beside the coil.
Thanks,
Grant
