Have a browse through a few of the questions I asked, Im reasonably new to Landrovers as well and these threads have some good stuff in them from the wizards on here.

    G'day Mate,

The difference you may find between buying a D1 over a D2 is that there is alot less electrical stuff on D1's as apposed to D2's hence less annoying things that could go wrong... For offroad use i'd go for the D1 because they are a bit tougher in my view :P but if its for around town and your prepared to may more for it and more for repairs etc. then go for a D2.

When buying a D1 look at the water system, leaks etc. check the water level and things like water pump for leaks or any signs of surface corosion that may have been caused by leaking water.... The lesser the k's the better because alot of the older k'd ones are harder worn obviously, this is something that comes with every car though. If it has more k's on it then you'll want to make sure it has a good service history, i.e regularly serived, disco's really need that to be a reliable car.

With test drive, any sory of knock or strange sound isnt obviously going to be good so just make sure it pretty much has anything without a good explianation!

That's all i can think of for now, my car has 350,000kms its a D1 1995 300TDI and its pretty tough, just make sure you don't drive through deep water - as i've just found, my gearbox doesnt like that. :P

Fly down to Sydney instead, there are lots for sale down here that have never had a tire touch a non sealed road, let alone been driven down a beach like the Brisbane ones.

    Buying D2

    Welcome to the forum.
I have had RRC for years and bought my first Disco privately and joined the forum last month. A 2002 TD5 with 230000 on the clock for $12,000. I took a big chance not getting an independent mechanical inspection - thoroughly recommend one, unless you are a diesel mechanic. Having now had a 1100km bush trip I am very pleased with the TD5 but appalled by no diff lock. Look for play in the prop shafts, mine has worn housing bearings at each end of the front one. Check the forum for which years have no CDL (and no way to modify it) and avoid them.

    Hello everyone,

thank you for the replies and advice.
I found a Disco that looked good.
    It's a 2002 V8 auto SE7, 114 000km, has not done much off roading at all.
Price is $16 K, was wondering what you guys thought of the price? Has some extras on it, nothing major tho.

Also what is the fuel usage of the 4L V8? I can imagine pretty bad, but how bad? (please don't say REAL bad!)

    Cheers!
