Couldn't find a RAVE cd that covered the D1 200tdi only the 300tdi. If I'm missing something can someone point me in the right direction. I looked in the on line store, under the "Shop" link at the top of this forum page.. Dave's I think.

Hi all,
Quick update, all back together and running like a swiss watch......that has a diesel motor. Seriously though, all the right parts turned up, except for gaskets, I had to make my own out of a sheet of gasket paper.
(Tech tip: to make the bolt holes in the new gasket paper, tap a ball bearing that is bigger than the hole into the bolt hole through the paper. The ball bearing cuts the paper against the edge of the hole. If you do this first in a few places around the gasket, you can then drop a few bolts into the holes told the paper in place while you cut the rest of the holes and the perimeter of the gasket. Very easy and quick.)
Everything kind fell into place in an "assembly is the reversal of the process" kind of way. Can any one tell me how to put skin back on knuckles though? lol. Nothing to be afraid of in doing a timing belt.
Mechanic who assistad me had a great tool for undoing crank bolt too. I'll try and get a picture and post it.
Next stop, valve clearances and still trying to get the tacho to work.
Thanks again to those that helped.
Cheers.
Well done!
Tacho runs off the 'W' terminal on the back of the alternator. It is possible if someone has fitted an aftermarket one that the W terminal is not there. An auto elec can wire in a terminal plug for you off the star point on the stator to give a signal.
Valves set at .208mm (.008")

Hi JC,
.208mm Got it. Good bye tappet rattle. Thanks.
I have chased a few threads on the tacho problem. A new alternator was installed just before I bought the car. It is the proper make, made in UK. There is a grey and white wire attached to the W post but still no tacho. There are a couple of other small black plastic boxes attached to the alternator and in the grey and white wire circuit. I could swap the way these boxes are connected to the grey and white wire. Would anything bad happen? Or should I just go and see an auto electrician?
Ian.
