    Because your special, that's why

How about doing something worthwhile, and go get some EGT readings on a big hill, in top gear, foot flat, then report back.....preferably just numerically, cause you england words lacking much

Turn fuel screw untill you have approx 500C after the big hill, post turbo

Towed a Camry on a car trailer back from the east coast today, upstream temps on hills, (and there are a few long steep ones,) didn't exceed 540, and regularly saw 100+km/h in top gear (2100rpm) on the flat at 380 to 440. This is with my 'conservative' 'fuel map' With a small spanner and flat blade screwdriver , in a few seconds I can dial in another 15 to 20% more torque, and still not see more than 650. Most I have ever seen is 690, and at that fuel setting it is transmission and clutch destroying. (It ate up 3 Autos this way)

There is NO WAY a Tdi, however tweaked, will equal the job my Suzi did today

Every diesel I have seen with a factory EGT sensor has it PRE turbo.

Ian says it better than I can:
by far the best location for installing an EGT sensor is in the exhaust manifold, upstream of the turbo-charger exhaust turbine inlet. As the exhaust gas expands through the exhaust turbine, the pressure and temperature of the gasses reduces markedly. However, it is the hotter upstream temperatures to which the vital turbo components are subjected. That is, the turbine housing, turbine blade tips and wastegate valve 'see' the hotter upstream gas, which can heat them to damaging temperatures.

I have no idea which twin turbo V12 you're talking about, but any factory engine worth that much will have the expected readings of every sensor mapped out. So compare what the probe in the dump pipe says with what it should say and that's all it needs to know.

Which is nothing like a non turbo engine modified in someones backyard. You have no lookup tables for the different combinations of boost, EGT and indeed rpm to check the error from pre-post readings against.

So, shift that probe, get some readings and tell us what they are.

    Set up

    Mate
As I have said before I run an Isuzu with a TD5 turbo etc etc. Now I also run an R380 box like most TDi's do.

Yes the turbo is a bit small, but it is superb off road, spools up instantly etc etc.

As a comparison on a club trip our set up with camper in tow would eat a very similar set up on a D2 TD5 up hills etc.

Now ours tops out around 125km/h but its set up this way.

pre turbo EGT is far more accurate as everyone has said.

As far as Pumas go. Good luck with that. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We currently run 15psi 400 x 400 x 75 top mount IC. 600 -630 max temp on load. Running 35" tyres through 4:11 diffs R380 is a V8 box of coarse very similar motorway egt's as JustinC

( picture was pre painting photo)

    Somethings not right with yours.
    I can vouch for that!!

Justin's right about there being something wrong with your engine.
I've driven various rovers with stock and modded tdi's,2.8 power stroke,4BD1,td5's and Justin's rangie eats them all hands down. There's no comparison.

    Cheers Eric
