That banjo fitting screws into the rear end of the fuel gallery in the injection pump. The line that goes upward carries the return fuel from the injectors (don't be fooled by the fact that it comes from atop the fuel filter - the filter is just used as a mounting point).
The other line is the return to tank - the excess fuel from both the fuel gallery and injectors return to tank and the banjo fitting is used to tee them together.
Just to be sure, check that the leak itn't running down from the injector return line - it is known that the line can crack between the pigtail and where it mounts on the top of the fuel filter.
