    MXA 5R

    Hi Just picked up a cheap box on ebay
    The add said it has had some new bearings and syncros fitted but that a selector had been incorectly fitted .Drove ok but had to held in gear.
    I removed the top and run a ruler over the selector positions all appear ok
    From what I can see the box appears as new apart from the forward syncro assembly wich feels as if it has no springs? to center it I will completely disassemble but would appreciate any specs or assembly info

    This may not be your problem, but I found after rebuilding my LR gearbox I had to fiddle with the selector fork positions after installing it in the vehicle to get it right. Was a PITA but eventually got it to stay in gear. I installed heavier springs in the synchros except 1st/2nd, and on this synchro it's hard to pick the point where the hub is being held in its correct place. Good luck.

    On dismantling found all syncro assemblys were back the front seems the mechanic did!nt
    know front from back .Consquently one of the new syncro was cracked (bummer) apart from that all good

    That is very nice. Well done.
    My MSA box was done about 20 years ago in a similar concept, but absolutely terrible execution using an Austin Allegro selector.

    How is your height between shaving the top and then adding the selector housing?

    What plan do you have for the 4HE1 bell-housing?

    And one last question. What vehicle is this going in and is it short stick (later disco, late RRC etc) or long stick position (early RRC, 90,110 etc)

    Removed about 35 mm of housing and added about the same The bell housing suits the 4he1t engine on the boat from USA arrives end off month or early March .All to fit a
    96 110 Defender I bought during a bout of senility

    It is a terrible disease, but you'll fit right in here.

    I'm interested to see how all that fits, but also the LT230 selector.
