Not so budget turbo install

Got the struts from ebay and the mounts from strut specialists in wa.

Only trick i think is matching the weight to the strut. My bonnet is light so i went for 180lbs ones for a ute canopy.

On first fitment the angle the bonnet sat at when open was the same as the angle the hinges were open to remove the bonnet- so when i opened it the whole thing popped out with much drama and me wondering what the hell had just happened :)

Slight thread derail but if anyone else is thinking of fitting bonnet struts and are trying to figure out what capacity struts to get, take a look at adjustable gas struts - they seem to be the strut of choice at home. When you first fit them you'd be hard pressed to close the bonnet, but the struts allow for gas to be bled from the system via an allen key, until they match the weight of the bonnet plus attachments. HAve read good things about them in the forums back home.

This is a supplier in the UK, but I'm sure it's possible to find something more local....

Tru-fit. But it was a hell of a saga... I'm not using that bonnet anymore (went for a Puma type to fit the W2A) and have some marine insulation from Whitworths for the new one.

Finally finished the exhaust. It is all fun and games until you try and manoeuvre under the 110 while tacking up the flanges and accidentally slide over the tig torch. :eek:

It is a bit more complicated than it really needs to be, but it is pretty tight up under the chassis. The rear tip is the only part you can see unless you climb up under it.

I'm going to wait until I run it for a bit and make sure I don't need to make any modifications then get it ceramic coated. Interestingly HP Coatings told me that a normal coating will be no good with the mud and water that a 4x4 will be subject to, so they are going to do two coats of a special one designed for motorbikes that is better in the weather. The only catch is that it has a lower temp that it can handle - it is limited to 700Deg C.. close enough to my EGT limit for me not to worry too much.

I reckon that lower temp coating will be fine. With a decent turbo and intercooler I doubt you'd be seeing anywhere near 700degC post turbo with the stock pump. From memory Rovercare was less than 700 PRE-turbo with fuel screw right out on his VNT + WTA setup.
