it would flow a lot better without the inner filter,

this one is supposed to be a high flow V8 / turbo unit but they rate it at 308 CFM

Nissan Patrol HI Flow ZD30 Airbox Suit Turbo V8 GQ | eBay

based on that you would think the tractor unit would be heaps for a 3.9

I have the standard filter housing and I realise this likely doesn't flow enough either. As isuzurover says bigger is better but unless you want to mount it on the roof the engine bay is pretty tight.

I'm looking at one of these for a 4BD1 non turbo- purchased a Perentie recently and it's missing the air cleaner housing.
The seller tells me the outlet elbow swivels, so I think everything will line up where the original housing did and look reasonably original, albeit more modern. The only issue I can see is that the restriction indicator will be upside down on the outlet elbow - is this a problem?

I'll also have to make up a bracket to support the plastic mounting ring, according to the Donaldson catalogue only one mount is required (it is 50mm wide). Two mounts seem like a better idea to me....

Sorry mark forgot to pm you back. Yeah outlet swivels, inlet is fixed and isn't quite ideal for the way I wanted to set it up but have found a way around it, was no real big deal. I'm happy, especially for the price

Yes' they are a good price..Do you think the single clamp will be enough considering it will be hanging off the back of a 4BD1?

Single clamp is about 20mm wide, looks pretty robust, but I'd use/make a second or use the Isuzu ones

Do you do this Vern? If so, I'd love to see some installed pics.

It cross-references to the Donaldson FPG Alexin G082528 (typo in the ebay auction) which is restriction curve #9 in the standard FPG catalogue. But the tail on the housing is the sweetener on that one.
I'm looking for 500CFM with usable restriction, this looks about 6kPa which is perfectly acceptable for 4BD1T at ~4000rpm and 32psi boost. It's official rated at ~300CFM at ~11 inches of water (2.8kPa).

The 526 model is the same thing but with the safety filter. Airflows are rated about 20% lower for the same pressure drop with the safety filter.

Just in case you see. Many bridges to cross before then. I'm currently pulling 5.5kPa restriction on ~290CFM. Which is pretty awful.

Found the Donaldson PDF catalogue for them here: http://www.donaldson.com/en/catalogs/engine/033615.pdf
The right angle end is the part I hadn't found before.
