    Hey mate,
Can you help me identify a turbo i bought for my perentie and let me know if it will be suitable I got it from the states it was originally on a 4bd1t and the guy said it was only on the engine during running in the owner didnt require the engine to be turbocharged also how do i go about checking it's condition I've done larger marine turbos where u measure the radial clearances between the compressor wheel and the housing north south east and west im guessing u lightly push the wheel to eliminate clearance in the bearing and then take a measurement? also axial or end float im guessing u use a dial indicator and push the shaft in one direction until hard up then o mic and push the other way take reading am i correct? is there any other measurements i need to check and also what would be acceptable measurements. Cheers mate.

ahh not sure how to upload photos but tab on compressor housing says tb28 i'll try and figure out how to get pics and send them to you

    Regards jamie

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Dougal to reply. He hasn't been on here since the paid subscription was introduced.

Is this what Isuzurover runs? I'd just put it on and use it. Plenty of people here running a t25, so am sure a t28 will work as well.

It's a Garrett made under license by the look. I didn't know they manufactured in China. I wouldn't be too worried about the quality of the turbo when made.

I have the later roller bearing version. It's a big improvement compared to a na motor. Fit it and see how it goes. At worst it will need new oil seals or have excessive shaft wear or have a exhaust side AR that's too high. Either rebuild it or buy another T28 replacement which will look and fit the same.

Search ca18det or sr20det turbos. You will find a heap of used turbos if you don't like the one you have.
