Yea a lot of people said just put it in and run it!
But I was told that the motor had something wrong with it and that's why It was pulled out.
Now I couldn't just ignore that! Last thing I wanted was to damage the engine further if there was something drastically wrong with it!
The motor is actually checking out to be quite ok, so I think it need a good wash, a new set of bearings, gaskets, seals and a paint.
With the rods I'm still concerned about the bearing surfaces! they look ruff, I will take them to and engine re-conditioner and see what they say!
With the head bolts, can I reuse them? or do I have to buy a new set.
Also do you guys recommend getting the rotating assembly balanced?
cheers
Head bolts can not be reused.
I too would have pulled it apart and had a good look. It will benefit from having some new bits thrown into it and you will have peace of mind knowing you've had it apart and know exactly what condition its in
Will you have the head reconditioned??
bearing in photo number 5799 has picked up some grit, a filing or some goop.
5800 is the worst of the lot but in good enough order I wouldn't have been concerned about it.
pistons look good.
big end caps look good but need to be cleaned properly before looking at them again, do not use an abrasive, chemical cleaners, toothbrushes and newspaper / rag on a roll only.
when you're taking more photos make it easy for us and put a number marker on a tag in the photo, individual small bits in a photo might be something insignificant but enough insignificant bits on a single cylinder can add up.
Hey Geeman, correct me if im wrong, but those pics of the big end caps and bearings just show the underside of the bearing not the wearing side. The underside of the bearing doesnt really matter, the condition of the wearing surface is all that matters, unless the bearing has been spinning which they obviously havent.
Cheers Rod
