With The head I will pull it down, clean it, check it for straightness, replace the valve stem seals and re-lap the valve in. Everything else looks really good.

    cheers

Hey Steve, haven't had time to do anything else to it for a while! I will be ordering a top end gasket kit, new bearings, rear main seal and new head bolts soon! Once that arrives it will be going all back together again!
I want to build a engine test stand this way I can run it up on the stand and make sure all is ok!

Question for all you guys, will any landrover gearbox bolt up to the back of that engine?

Not sure where you're heading with the question, but for physical bolt up an LT95 or LT85 will bolt straight up providing you have the Landrover 4bd1 bellhousing to suit that particular gearbox (not the same bellhousing for LT85/95).

Clutch pressure plate is the same for both boxes, but the friction plates are different spline so you need the appropriate one for the box.

Despite me saying earlier just to whack it back together, after reading Rijidij's recent post about a corroded oil cooler housing its probably worthwhile pulling that off for a quick look since you've already got the IP off and access is easy.

Or to rephrase that. No landrover gearbox will bolt straight to the 4BD1. Unless you have the custom bellhousing Steve mentioned.

People have modified the LT85 bellhousing for use with an R380, however an ISUZU gearbox is a much better choice if you are thinking about swapping gearboxes.

The engine was of the 6x6 Landy engine so I assume it has a Landry bell housing! Now will a zf4hp24 bolt pattern be the same as the Isuzu/Landry housing or do I still have to make an adapter plate?

Pulldown and inspect of my ex army 4bd1-t

The reason I ask is because I had an old Chev engine to Zf4hp trans adapter which I am working on reverse engineering to be chev trans to rover/Isuzu engine!

    Search is your friend.

JustinC tried a ZF4HP22 and it died a very quick death.

The 24 may work but would still be marginal. There are better options.

    Search is your friend:
    isuzu 4bd1 to ZF auto

Sheldon on here is working on adaptor kits, including to strong autos.
