Please excuse me for the hyjack detour, but I want some specific answers. Unlike most of the people here, my issues are a little different, so to summarise. I have a SIII 110 f/c (otherwise known as a SIIB forward control, although it has a SIII clamshell type 110 chassis, SIII 1 Ton all synchromesh series gearbox/low ratio helical transfer box and it weighs 2.75 tonne tare. It races along at 70KPH (any faster and it overheats) and takes shares in Shell Oil.
My plans in the new year were to fit a Land Rover 4BD1 NA with LT85/LT230 which I already have. The LT85 because of the overdrive 5th is needed (over the LT95) to push around the 36" 9.00 16 on the 4.7:1 ENV/Salisbury diffs, the Defender LT230 gives me almost the same 1st gear and a slightly lower lo ratio. Now the MSA seems a better option, because it's a stronger box and it already has a remote shift mechanism that can be adapted to the cab over engine SIIB. I will also have to move the chassis cross member behind the gearbox.
